Knitting For Refugees

Knitting for refugees

Brittany knits from home to help refugees stay warm.

Resonate

KnitAid is a UK based NGO that collaborates groups of knitters and support groups to knit warming items for refugees all over the world – from Calais to Jordan. And Brittany is one of those knitters, who not only has been knitting at home to help but has gotten her friends involved.

“I’ve been really frustrated, with the refugee crisis being so close to home but feeling restricted by my commitment to my degree. Knitting for refugees felt like a tangible way to make a difference to people’s day to day lives, before being able to actually get out there and help when I graduate!”

Knitting for refugees

I saw in one of your pictures, you were trying to teach a friend? How did that work out, did he end up making something?

Since I posted about knitting for refugees on social media, I’ve had a lot of interest. One of my friends asked me to teach him how to knit, so we’ve had knitting sessions since! My grandma taught me how to knit when I was 12, but it’s incredibly easy to pick up even if you’ve never done it before!

These are the tutorials I’ve directed my friends to:

How to carry on
